Biden says Bush could be impeached

DES MOINES, Iowa — Delaware Sen. Joe Biden said a case could be made to impeach President Bush, but that such a step would be politically impractical.

Biden told about 200 students at Drake University Law School Tuesday that most Americans wouldn't want to impeach Bush. He said such a move would be bad politics and could have unintended consequences.

"I don't want to impeach Bush — because I don't want Cheney," he said, referring to Vice President Dick Cheney.

WASHINGTON, Jan. 28 — Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Delaware, the chairman of the Senate
Foreign Relations Committee, predicted today that no more than 20 senators would voice support for the president's troop increase in Iraq when the Senate debates resolutions opposing that plan.

Mr. Biden and other Democrats also angrily contested the Bush administration's suggestion that
their criticism of the war was emboldening the nation's enemies.
